Action Required -New Student Absence Reporting System

New Student Absence Reporting System

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The Halton District School Board has transitioned to a new Student Absence Reporting system calledSchoolMessenger. This system is used for:

  • Reporting student absences

  • Receiving all messages and/or phone calls from your child’s school and the HDSB

The new system provides more communication options and enables schools to verify student attendance more quickly and notify you of an unexplained absence sooner.

Starting September 2018, you will be able to report your child’s absence/late arrival in the following ways:

  1. App: HDSB Mobile App (available for download on the App Store and Google Play)

  2. Website:

  3. Phone: 1-877-409-6310 (Toll-free)

Parents/guardians will now have the option to receive app notifications and text messages, in addition to emails and/or phone calls from schools and the HDSB.

All families must register for SchoolMessenger to report student absences online and set communication preferences for receiving messages from your child's school and the HDSB.

During the registration process for SchoolMessenger, you will be able to set your communication preferences for how you wish to receive messages from your child’s school and the HDSB.

If your child is not at school and the absence has not been reported in advance, the new SchoolMessenger system will quickly contact you according to your communication preferences (email, app notification, text message, phone call). The automated system will attempt to reach you until you choose an option to explain your child’s absence.

How to Register for SchoolMessenger

You can register for SchoolMessenger through the HDSB Mobile App or the SchoolMessenger website.

HDSB Mobile App

  1. Download the HDSB Mobile App from the App Store or Google Play and complete the set-up process.

  2. Click on the “Messages and Absences” icon. You will be prompted to download the SchoolMessenger app from the App Store or Google Play. The SchoolMessenger app ensures only parents/guardians have access to their child’s information.

  3. Sign up for a SchoolMessenger account.

  1. Visit

  2. Sign up for a SchoolMessenger account.

The following training videos are available to assist you with the SchoolMessenger sign up process and provide instructions for reporting an absence for your child:

One of the new features of the SchoolMessenger system is the option to receive messages via text to mobile phones. If you currently have a mobile phone number on record with your child’s school, you will receive a text message from SchoolMessenger providing you with the opportunity to opt-in. This message to opt-in will be sent during the last week of August.

As this is a new system, parents/guardians who have previously unsubscribed to school communications will be required to update their communication preferences in the new SchoolMessenger system.

Thank you for your cooperation as we transition to SchoolMessenger.

Dress Code

posted May 23, 2018, 5:43 AM by Nicole Hamel   [ updated Oct 18, 2018, 4:03 AM ]

Please be sure to review our Dress Code expectations...
During our back to school assemblies, our dress code expectations were outlined.  To be sure parents are also aware of these expectations, we have included them here:
  • Students are to dress neatly and appropriately for school.
  • Students should be encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather conditions and may require layers during the early spring and fall.
  • Please put your name on the inside of your children's clothing as often pieces are mislaid and end up in our lost and found bin.  It is much easier to return those lost items when they cane be identified.
  • Revealing clothing such as tube tops, tank tops, halter tops, muscle shirts, short shorts and spaghetti straps and clothing that exposes the midriff should not be worn.
